The Blessing That Was 2020 (Day 7)

Gift # 7 Gift of Prayer

This is the last day of this 7-day series on this topic: For those who have missed reading some articles, kindly click the link below:

Of course, there are many other gifts that I have received during the year 2020, but as the last gift in this series, I would like to highlight the gift of prayer.

Praying has been my solace during the lock-down.

My favorite form of praying is Lectio Divina, followed by silent meditation. I think it is due to my introverted temperament.

I like “thinking,” so the discursive part of the Lectio Divina and the silent meditation balances each other.

During my seminary years, I was introduced to various prayer forms that involved bodily movement, singing and talking.

In some sense, I think these prayer forms sanctifies our bodily functions. For speaking, there are vocal prayers; for thinking, there are meditations and discursive prayers; for movement, there are bodily prayers; for emotions, there are some prayers that evoke intense feelings, etc…

The lock-down gave me time to think and meditate, although I can say that the pandemic’s psychological burden also brought its toil.

Many questions and fears bother me. Yet, I believe that these are also part of prayer because everything that happens during prayer is praying itself.
