To serve others is a sign of true humility. After hearing that her cousin Elizabeth is bearing a child in her old age, Mary went in haste to be of service. Despite her lofty position as the Mother of the Messiah, it did NOT hinder her from doing service. Her faith moved her to action.
CONTEXT
The “Service Sector” in the Philippines is now the biggest contributor to the Philippine Gross Domestic Product. The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Tourism, and Man Power Export Services are the top three.
A few decades ago, there was a controversy when the word “Filipino” became synonymous with “domestic helpers.” It was a distorted view of the Filipinos who are in the service and other hospitality industries.
Filipinos are known to be industrious and trustworthy service providers abroad.
CONTENT
Mary went in haste to Judea’s hill country upon hearing that her cousin Elizabeth was with child.
She did not mind that she, too, was pregnant. More admirably, she did not hesitate to serve others despite her being the mother of the long-awaited Messiah.
Her concern for her elderly cousin cuts across status or prestige, which showed Mary’s humility without thinking of any gain or favor.
CONNECTION: MISSIO AD GENTES
Filipinos are all over the world. Their presence is an important missionary witnessing not only of our culture but also our faith.
Whenever there are Filipinos, churches become vibrant communities. This is one of the valuable resources for the mission.
Filipinos, by their diligent service, can become missionaries not only of our culture but also of our faith.
Filipinos abroad are our missionaries to the world. Filipino families living in other countries are the Filipino Catholic church ambassadors to foreign countries.
