Bonifacio: A Hero of Change

Whenever there is change, resistance is inevitable. When you are implementing change, and there is no resistance due to this process, one should be nervous. Why? It is because when people are not resisting, then you are not making an impact. I would even consider that the more significant the change is, the more powerful will be the resistance.
However, in the process of change, no one will emerge unscathed. All participants in the change process will have to gain and lose something. It may be the loss of a former way of doing things or thinking.
Those who are change-makers mustn’t surrender to the resistance. One compelling reason to continue to push for change despite the pushback is having a vision and a sense of mission. Without these two elements, it would be easy just to surrender and give up. After all, who wants to suffer the inconvenience of other people’s ill will.
Those who have vision and mission shame those who do not have. This is why they would instead rally people around their cause because it is easier not to be bothered by the inconveniences of change.
Unfortunately, some people would prefer to usher in the slow death of organizations or communities than give up their position of power or influence.
They would enter into gossips and politicking to punish the change-makers. Those who want the status quo would find allies who will help them make sure that they stay in power or in their current way of doing things.
They do not want to change; they would go to great lengths to stop the process. There are too many double-faced hypocrites in this world. There is nothing new under the sun after all.
Today we celebrate Bonifacio’s memory, who is a hero in the mind of some while a villain for others. Yet, whatever it is, Bonifacio never gave up his vision and mission for change…
